Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium - A Must-See! Seriously, even if you're not usually a "zoo person," this place is something else! It's consistently ranked as one of the best in the world, and for good reason. I've been a few times, and I'm still blown away every visit. The Lied Jungle is like stepping into a real rainforest, complete with monkeys swinging overhead! And the Desert Dome? It's like being transported to another planet – the sheer size and the variety of desert creatures are incredible. Plan for a full day – there's just so much to see. If you're traveling with kids, they'll be talking about this place for weeks. Don't miss the aquarium either – the shark tunnel is a highlight! It's about a 20 minutea drive from the house, and totally worth it. Check their website for hours and ticket info. Pro tip: try to get there early to beat the crowds, and wear comfy shoes!
Omaha Children's Museum
For a guaranteed fun-filled family outing, the Omaha Children's Museum is a must-visit! I've seen my own kids absolutely light up there, and it's become a family favorite. Two things we always gravitate towards are the 'Creative Play' area, where they can pretend to run a grocery store or fire station – it’s amazing to watch their imaginations soar – and the 'Imagination Playground' with its giant ball maze; pure, unadulterated joy! Weekdays are generally less crowded, and checking their website for special events is always a good idea. Plan for a few hours to soak it all in, and don't forget your camera. It's truly a gem in Omaha, and I'm sure your family will create some wonderful memories
Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum
If you're looking for an awe-inspiring experience, especially if you have any interest in aviation or space, the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum is a must-see. I've personally been blown away by the sheer scale of the aircraft and the fascinating history on display. My two favorite things are definitely the SR-71 Blackbird – seeing that incredible machine in person is something else – and the space exhibit, which really puts into perspective the incredible achievements of human space exploration. It's a fantastic place for all ages, with interactive displays that keep everyone engaged. Plan for a few hours to really explore, and be prepared to leave feeling both humbled and amazed. It's a unique piece of Omaha's history, and I'm confident you'll find it as captivating as I do.
Gene Leahy Mall
The Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront has become one of my absolute favorite spots in Omaha, especially since its recent revitalization! It's a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors, right in the heart of the city. My two favorite things are definitely the iconic slides – they're just so much fun, even for adults! – and the peaceful walking paths along the water. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or just relaxing and watching the world go by. I love how it brings people together; there's always something happening, whether it's a concert, a food truck gathering, or just families enjoying the sunshine. It's truly transformed the downtown area, and I find myself drawn back there time and time again. I highly recommend taking some time to experience it for yourself – you won't be disappointed!
Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge
The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is my favorite spot in Omaha. I love to walk or bike across the bridge, especially at sunset. The views are simply stunning. I also enjoy taking photos of the bridge, especially at night when it's lit up. If you're looking for a unique and memorable experience, I highly recommend taking a walk or bike ride across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.

I absolutely love spending time in the Old Market! It's such a charming area with a unique vibe. Just a short drive from the house, you'll find the vibrant Old Market district. This historic area is packed with unique shops, art galleries, and delicious restaurants. It's a great place to wander around, grab a bite to eat, and soak up the local atmosphere.
Kobe Steak House of Japan
For a truly memorable dining experience, Kobe Steakhouse of Japan is a must-try! It's not just a meal; it's a show. I've taken friends and family there countless times, and it's always a hit. My two favorite things are, without a doubt, the incredible chefs and the atmosphere. Watching them skillfully prepare your meal right before your eyes is so entertaining, and the 'onion volcano' is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! I've celebrated many special occasions there, and it never disappoints. My two favorite things? Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly tender. It's the kind of place where you want to linger over your meal and savor every moment.
